Take It Home: Prepare for Jesus Day 5
Prepare with Integrity
The crowd asked him, “Then what are we supposed to do?” “If you have two coats, give on away,” he said. “Do the same with your food.” Tax men also came to be baptized and said, “Teacher, what should we do?” He told them, “No more extortion-collect only what is required by law.” Soldiers asked him, “And what should we do?” He told them, “No shakedowns, no blackmail- and be content with your rations.” Luke 3:10-14 MSG
The crowd is shaken by John’s call for repentance, for turning, for changing their minds. “What exactly do you mean?” is running like a squirrel in their heads. Notice John’s answers. Each one is about integrity in God’s Kingdom.
- Live with generosity.
- Don’t bend the rules in your favor to the disadvantage of another.
- Don’t victimize the people in your power.
- Underlying all of them is contentment with the path God has placed you on.
It’s striking how each is a great description of Jesus! It’s also striking how each can be put into play in your family setting, in your work setting, in your neighborhood. Review the list asking the Holy Spirit to guide your thoughts. Which will you put into action today?
