As the bridegroom was delayed, they all became drowsy and slept. But at midnight there was a cry, ‘Here is the bridegroom! Come out to meet him.’ Then all those virgins rose and trimmed their lamps. And the foolish said to the wise, ‘Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.’ But the wise answered, saying, ‘Since there will not be enough for us and for you, go rather to the dealers and buy for yourselves.’ And while they were going to buy, the bridegroom came, and those who were ready went in with him to the marriage feast, and the door was shut. Mathew 25: 5-10 ESV

Advent is a season of joy, celebration of hope. As we prepare to celebrate the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ, we look for a variety of ways to share our joy with friends, family and church family. Presents, family get-togethers, caroling are some of our usual activities. While we celebrate Christmas, are we ready for our Lord’s second coming? How much time do we spend in getting ready to receive our Lord in all his glory? This advent season, continue to pray about your personal preparedness.

This week – document a sign of repentance in your day’s activities. Leave something behind: a habit that negatively impacts someone you and God cares for, a hobby that distracts your attention from the people in your life, overtime at work driven by your own desire to achieve. Consider how this impacts the people around you and makes you a better witness.
