Being Resolute

Where is the newborn king of the Jews? We saw his star as it rose, and we have come to worship him. Matthew 2:2 (NLT)

You may be considering some New Year’s resolutions, new things to do or steps to take. Rather we would invite you to go to the root of resolutions and instead be resolute. This rich word is filled with the flavors of firm unwavering tenacity, unyielding determination, steadfast perseverance. This is an invitation to live a purposeful life all year long.

Matthew tells us of men who were resolute. Yes, they do something, they take steps, but the remarkable part of their story is in their character. They are resolute in their search for the newborn King. They have identified their purpose to worship Him – period. They let nothing dissuade or distract them in this purpose.

Take a few moments in quiet to be one of the wise. Follow the star to Jesus and worship. Open your heart to the Holy Spirit, the one who can plant a resolute seed in your heart. Keep that word or one of its flavors (unwavering, firm, tenacious, unyielding, determined, steadfast, persevere) close at hand in your prayers and study of God’s Word long term. Praise Him throughout the year as that seed grows.
