Advent: Behold Day 3

Behold! A Great Message!

And the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. And the Lord God will give to him the throne of his father David, and he will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of his kingdom there will be no end.”

And Mary said to the angel, “How will this be, since I am a virgin?” Luke 1:30–34 ESV

Sometimes, God says “behold” and what follows, though great news, is really confusing. Mary, already troubled by Gabriel and his greeting, is now commanded to pay attention. She, a virgin, will conceive a son in her womb.  The exchange that follows is so beautiful. In simple faith, Mary asks Gabriel how (not if) this will happen. Gabriel explains in clear, simple terms – the Holy Spirit will overshadow you Mary so Jesus will be called holy – the Son of God.

When God says “behold” and you’re confused and afraid, remember. He loves you through every circumstance of life. With Him, nothing is impossible. Nothing! What situation in your life, or the life of one you love deeply, can you release to God in faith, just like Mary? It’s OK to ask, “Father, I don’t understand what’s going on here.” Still, trust Him in all things.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, please guide me when I’m confused or troubled. Increase my faith and remind me of the victory of your Son Jesus on the cross and at the empty tomb. In Jesus Name, Amen.
