Jesus Throws a Temple Tantrum
Scripture: John 2:13–25
One of the common images that we have of Jesus is as the meek and mild shepherd, who snuggles lambs and laughs with children, who turns the other cheek and was gentle even in the face of his own trial and execution. But then, along comes passages like John 2:13-25, where we encounter a fierce and wild Jesus who rages against the machine, overturning tables, screaming at people, and using a whip to violent drive people and animals from the Temple courts. Angry Jesus?! Where was that in my childrens’ Bible?! So what is going on here?
