John’s Gospel begins with these words: “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him.” These verses establish that Jesus did not come into being as a baby in Bethlehem. In fact, Jesus is the immortal God who was with the Father at the start of creation. Jesus himself acknowledges this later in John’s Gospel when he says, “Before Abraham was, I am.”
So – what was Jesus doing in the Old Testament? This series will explore that exact topic. Over the years many theologians have seen clues to Jesus in the Old Testament. These clues give us a glimpse not only to Jesus and what he was doing then… but to how he continues to work in and for us now.
