God tells Jonah to go to Nineveh. Instead Jonah catches a boat for the end of the word to avoid doing what God has clearly told him to do. “After paying the fare” – This trip would cost Jonah much more than the cost of a boat ticket. Regardless of the actual fare, this trip could end up costing him is life.
