Passage: Isaiah 40:3–40:5, Isaiah 40:28–40:31

In the days before the ministry of Jesus, the fulfillment of the prophecy in Isaiah comes to pass. A voice – John the Baptist – appears in the wilderness to prepare the way for the Lord. The Lord comes in glory and power to a people who felt forgotten and forsaken. Under oppressive Roman rule and looked down on by their own religious leaders, many in Israel had lost hope.

But Isaiah had promised – the coming of the Lord would change everything. Those who hoped in the Lord, who had lost their strength, would mount up on wings like eagles! They would find new life in him.
