In our culture, New Year's is a time to celebrate the end of one year and the start of another. It is a time to toss out the old and bring in the new. Often this is the time of making resolutions in order to get a fresh start in the new year. And while New Year's is a pretty arbitrary time to start a new thing in our lives, this very desire to make resolutions points to a deeper need: a need for change. We recognize that there are things in our lives that are not the way they should be. We want a new start. We long for a fresh beginning.
