Week 1 - The Mountain - TKW

November 27, 2016 Speaker: Series: Images from Isaiah - Advent Conspiracy

Topic: Advent Scripture: Isaiah 2:1–5

Text: Isaiah 2:1-5
Image Verse: “It shall come to pass in the latter days that the mountain of the house of the Lord shall be established as the highest of the mountains.” Isaiah 2:2

Mountains are hard to miss. They tower over the surrounding countryside, demanding attention. They represent a challenge to be conquered. But even more, they represent a place to rise above the ordinary, the every day. A place to find comfort, hope, and wholeness. We go to “mountaintop retreats” for rest and renewal. We describe big events in our lives as “mountaintop experiences.” Wise men await us on the mountain. God gives his commandments there and meets with people like Moses and Elijah.

In Isaiah, one of the prophecies of the coming messianic age is that the “house of the Lord” will be established as the highest of all mountains. All people will come to this mountain and their they will find God’s wisdom and justice. They will find peace and light.

This year our Advent Conspiracy challenges us to shift our focus from our “everyday” holiday celebrations, and bring God’s wisdom, justice, peace, and light to the people of Kenya. By focusing less on ourselves and understanding the challenges and struggles of the people in Kenya we can become the source of life and light for them!
