Faith is a gift from God. Once we have that faith, God’s amazing promises become the foundation of our life and the answer to what we seek.

A group of people approach Jesus, asking for him to plainly tell them if he is the messiah. He answers that he has already told them who he is… but they refuse to believe. He says, “you do not believe because you are not part of my flock.” Notice he does NOT say, “you are not part of my flock because you do not believe.” It is not our belief that makes us his flock. Something must happen to make us his flock before we can believe – and that of course is the work of God in our lives! Once God works on us, belief becomes possible as his flock.

And then, once we are in the flock, he makes us amazing promises. We can follow his voice. We have the gift of eternal life (we will never perish!), nothing can pull us away from God. And as we follow Jesus, we cling to his promises, knowing that His Father, the Almighty God, makes these same promises to us as well!
