November Update - Trinity Galewood

Trinity Galewood is thrilled to have two field workers from Concordia University Chicago working with Pastor Dave this year.

Katherine Lutz is continuing as field worker in children’s ministries for her third year. She is a senior in CUC’s Director of Christian Education (DCE) church work program. She has been a great helper in growing our Sunday KidStreet program as well as our seasonal family and children’s ministries, like the October 31st Fall Party, Holiday Hoops, and SpringJam.

Katherine did a summer internship at Trinity Galewood, which helped us launch a LightHouse junior high program twice monthly on Sunday nights, plus she organized everything for this year’s After School Club. Currently, over 60 kids, grades 1-8, are at Trinity Galewood on Tuesdays after school, hearing Bible stories, participating in small group discussions led by CUC students, and building positive Christian relationships in a safe environment. Katherine’s home is in Texas.

Joining her in DCE field work is Matt Burgener, a junior at CUC whose home is in Tolono, Illinois (Champaign County). Matt is not new to Trinity Galewood, having participated in our first College Leadership Institute, led by Pastor Dave and Missy Hawley, in fall 2018 and then serving as a volunteer in various ministries. He says the experience proved so meaningful to him, he felt called to switch from CUC’s non-profit business program to the DCE program last June. As a first-year DCE field worker, his primary role is observing to learn, but he participates in worship as our praise band drummer most Sundays, is a small group leader at After School Club, and attends as many other children and youth ministry activities at Trinity that he can fit into his schedule.

The opportunity to invest in and nurture future Lutheran church workers has been a singular blessing for the Trinity Galewood campus. Pastor Dave’s years as a DCE in congregational ministry before pursuing ordination to serve as a pastor certainly seem to have been God’s way of preparing him for this specific call.

COMING UP: Fall Party for the community at Trinity Galewood on Thursday, October 31, 5-7 p.m. VOLUNTEER TO SERVE! BRING THE FAMILY!
