Before Bethlehem

John’s Gospel begins with these words: “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him.” These verses establish that Jesus did not come into being as a baby in Bethlehem. In fact, Jesus is the immortal God who was with the Father at the start of creation. Jesus himself acknowledges this later in John’s Gospel when he says, “Before Abraham was, I am.” So
