Forgiving & Asking for Forgiveness

Scripture: Genesis 27:41–28:5, Matthew 5:21–5:26

In Matthew 5:21-26 Jesus warns us about the dangers of unforgiveness, saying that if we fail to ask for forgiveness (or to give it) we live imprisoned lives in which conflict remains until the last penny is paid.

In Jacob and Esau’s story we see this warning illustrated in dramatic terms as Esau plots to kills his brother and Jacob runs rather than asking for forgiveness. The family of Abraham, the family of blessing, is now divided and alienated.
